Special needs kids and children with cancer in Palm Beach County were the big winners April 27 to 29, when PGA Tour Professional Golfer Robert Allenby hosted the second annual “Robert Allenby Bluewater Golf and Fishing Invitational” in Jupiter.
“This year’s tournament and Gala Dinner were a huge success,” said Allenby, a native of Australia and Jupiter resident. “A very special thank you goes out to all of the participants, sponsors, donors, volunteers and guests who helped us raise a lot of money to help children in our area.”
Allenby is known as one of the top golfers in the world, but very few people know about his commitment and dedication to helping kids with disabilities and medical complications.
The “Robert Allenby Bluewater Golf and Fishing Invitational” consisted of a full day of deep-sea fishing that Saturday, followed by a Gala Dinner Saturday night at Admiral’s Cove and then golf at the Bear’s Club on Sunday.
The overall tournament winners were Dan Stanton, Ray Celedinas, Sean Bresnan and Sean Healy who scored 53 points in Golf and 14 points in Fishing for an overall total of 39 points. Second place in Golf went to Tom Smith, Kyle Smith, Kevin Morris and Michelle McGann.
One of the highlights of golf was when Kyle Smith almost had a hole-in-one on Hole No. 2 at the Bears Club and came within two inches of winning a brand new Maserati. Second place in Fishing was awarded to Dr. Larry Deziel, Rudy Schupp, Jarett Duty and Brian Siegle.
The Gala Dinner, held at the Admiral’s Cove Clubhouse, took on an “Under the Sea” atmosphere, complete with a live mermaid who was photographed with guests, an ice carving shaped like a mermaid with seahorses that served as the decor for the elaborate sushi hors d’oeuvres, a full casino with craps, blackjack and roulette and a silent and live auction.
For dinner, guests were served mango chipotle shrimp skewers with citrus Jicama slaw, arugula and bib lettuce, crisp tortilla, goat cheese flan and a pineapple vinaigrette followed by a main course of filet mignon with jumbo prawn shrimp and a Bahamian Rum Cake with coconut mousse for dessert.
There was dancing till all hours to the band Acoustic Remedy.
“We are very lucky to have such wonderful sponsors who help make the event possible,” Allenby said. “The Gardens Mall, Brio Tuscan Grille Restaurant, Russell’s Blue Water Grill, Brown Distributing, Zonin Wines, Admirals Cove, The Bear’s Club, Taylormade Golf, Cobra/Puma Golf, Srixon Golf Balls, Shimano Fishing, and Maserati all contributed to the event and helped make the tournament a success.”
